Water Views
Visions of a restored Snake River corridor for local communities
The following designs - under the title "Water Views" - feature the work of landscape architecture graduate students at the University of Idaho and Washington State University. The work in the show was produced in the course "Cultural Interpretations of the Regional Landscape."
During the course, students explored the connections between people and place in the Lower Snake River Basin, and how these connections are affected by and affect the Lower Snake River Dams. For their final project, students created design visualizations of the Lewiston waterfront both without, and with, the lower Snake River dams. Their designs were informed by site visits, research, interviews, conversations, observation, and reflection.
These designs attracted significant public interest while exhibited at the Sage Bakery in Lewiston in December 2009. They provide starting points for community discussions about river access, attractive working waterfronts, and related choices for the people of Clarkston and Lewiston. The students hope these concepts inspire dialogue in the affected communities.
